Elginton Grand Wedding

Happy Anniversary to Elsie + Jeff

A wedding photograph from Elsie + Jeff's wedding at the Eglinton Grand in Toronto, Ontario by Toronto wedding photographer Scott Williams.

Social media can be a double edged sword.

There's all the terrible aspects of it (the hacks, the curating, the online bullying) but it also allows a connection with people that I think would be difficult any other way.  It was through an Instagram post that I was reminded that Elsie + Jeff, one of my all time favourite couples, are celebrating their 6 year anniversary!

Elsie + Jeff had a fantastic wedding way back in 2012 at the Eglinton Grand event space in midtown Toronto with a wedding ceremony at the always stunning Trinity Chapel on the University of Toronto grounds.

A lot of photographers hate looking back at the older work.

Am I a better photographer than I was in 2012?  Probably, but it doesn't mean I'm not still proud of the pictures I've created over the years for my wedding clients.   And sure, there can be some cringeworthy stuff in there as we all succumb to certain fads, processing styles and technical limitations with the older cameras.   And of course the most glaring thing will always be how much you've grown and learned as a photographer over the years.

But it can also be a lot of fun looking back at these images and seeing the joy in their faces and the great moments.   Here are a couple of my favourite images from their Eglinton Grand wedding.

Also check back soon for a family session with Elsie + Jeff's beautiful family!

Happy anniversary you guys!

Award Winning Wedding Photography

I had a few other nice surprises in the inbox... One of my photographs placed fifth in the Kids Category  International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers Winter 2018 contest!

Another image from Sabrina + Zach's Toronto wedding was given an honourable mention by the Wedding Photojournalist Association in their latest round of winners!

As always, most of the credit goes to my amazing clients that trust me to capture moments like these for their weddings.

Muskoka Wedding Photography

Alli + Andy

I love when I get the opportunity to second shoot weddings with other wedding photographers, doubly so when it's photographers whose work I love.

Last fall I had the chance to help out Kate Hood, an amazing wedding photographer up in Muskoka.   You can check out her wedding photography work here.  Kate also does some amazing boudoir work which you can see here (slightly NSFW!).

All and Andy decided to have their entire wedding on their beautiful property in the heart of Muskoka.   The both got ready in their house, portraits in the woods behind, an intimate backyard outdoor ceremony and a cozy tent reception.

Alli & Andy decided to have a first look so they could get most of the posed pictures out of the way before the ceremony and spend more time with their guests.   Well, we finished up some wedding portraits in the woods and headed back to the house but then we all realized that most of the guests were already seated and would see Alli.   Quick thinking groomsmen came up with the idea to spread out a tarp and walk Alli across the backyard... it's one of my favourite pictures of the day.

Enjoy the rest of these pictures, hope I can work with Kate again soon!

Their Favourite Wedding Photograph

Cindy + Enrico  -  Archeo, Toronto

archeo-wedding-toronto-001.jpg

Here is one from my ongoing series of Heirloom Photographs from Cindy + Enrico's fantastic wedding at Archeo in Toronto's historic Distillery District.

I really enjoy this project because it gives me some insight into the kind of wedding photographs my clients (and future clients) cherish and appreciate.

I love the wedding photograph that Cindy + Enrico chose for so many reasons... the connection between the two of them, the fact that it's not your 'typical' wedding picture and of course that it's from late into the night during their reception.  Right from day one I've always believed in photographing the entire wedding day, from getting ready to late into the night.

So here, in Cindy & Enrico's own words, is their favourite wedding photograph:

"It’s  important to us because it  symbolizes our soul connection which always comes when we are lost in anything creative together....like dancing. It’s especially beautiful because we were not aware of the camera ..."

Thank you so much Cindy & Enrico, I hope you still love this picture for years to come.

andrea-chris-wed-slideshow-073.jpg

I love this picture from Andrea + Chris' wedding at the Madsen's Greenhouse just outside of Toronto.

This picture comes to us from very late in the night... obviously.  :)   It definitely wouldn't be considered a traditional wedding picture but no one has ever accused me of being a traditional wedding photographer.

From the very first wedding I ever photographed I've always offered full day coverage... everything from getting ready in the morning to the party late into the night.  (You can check out my full wedding pricing here)

Why?

Because I think the entire wedding is important and deserves to be photographed.  Not just the stuff that happens for the 6 or 8 hours your wedding photographer is there.   Weddings are more than just cool pictures on a mountain top or in a farmers field (those are cool too though!)

I love the joy in this picture.  Everyone's obviously having a good time. But there's another reason I love this picture that isn't obvious... in addition to Andrea + Chris there are 3 of my past wedding clients in this picture.   I've photographed enough weddings with this group that I'm starting to feel like family.  :)

And the fact that they all loved their wedding pictures so much that they kept referring me is an honour I don't take lightly.

If you're getting married and all this sounds good to you, head over to my contact page  or shoot me an email at scott@scottwilliamsphotographer.com and lets create some amazing photographs for you!

One from the portfolio....

Renee & Ian finish their first dance in style during their wedding reception at the Fermenting Cellar in Toronto's Distillery District.

Picking up with an idea I got started with last year and then got busy... you know how it is!

Anyways, I'm going to try and continue my series of 'One from the portfolio...' where I take one of my favourite images from my main wedding portfolio and talk a little about the wedding and how I captured the image.

This week, I'm going all the way back to 2014 and Renee and Ian's amazing spring wedding at the Fermenting Cellar in Toronto's Distillery District.   This wedding, like most I shoot at the Fermenting Cellar for some reason, is one of my all time favourite weddings!  The entire wedding from start to finish was near perfect... great group of people, beautiful venue and a great party late into the night!

For this wedding photograph, Renee and Ian were just finishing up their first dance when Ian went for a dramatic dip and kiss at the end of song.   Luckily, he picked the spot where I had my off camera flashes dialled in just perfectly!

The Fermenting Cellar is one of those wedding venues I hear other photographers complain about all the time... it's too dark, there's no white ceiling to bounce their flash off of etc etc... Personally, I love it.  I'm very comfortable using off camera flash so the lack of white ceilings and the low light levels don't phase me at all.

I love the moment captured in this image as well as the pop of colour from the candles and the purple uplighting.

You can see the wedding album I designed for Renee + Ian here.

Langdon Hall will also be providing light refreshments.... sooooo you know, AMAZING free food!  :)

And if you're considering getting married at Langdon Hall but you can't make it this Saturday fear not!  I've actually just finished a great information page all about Langdon Hall to help you get a feel for this amazing wedding venue!

Best of 2017 Wedding Photography

Before we do anything else I want to give a huge thank you to all my couples in 2017... It's really an honour that you place your trust in me to capture one of the most important days in your life.  You welcome me into your homes (and hotel suites) with open arms and truly make me feel like one of the family.  I hope you love the moments I've captured for generations to come!

It was so tough going through all these wedding photographs and trying to chose my favourites.  One thing I really noticed is how different the weddings all were... everything from intimate gatherings at the amazing Langdon Hall, backyard weddings in Barrie and some amazing weddings at venues around downtown Toronto.  I also got to shoot at a bunch of different wedding venues I've never worked at before which is always great!

I'm already looking forward to a great 2018!
