Ontario Country Wedding

Terri + Delroy

These days, so much of the wedding industry is focused on things... the dress, the flowers, the decor.

Terri + Delroy's wedding had all these things but it was obvious from very start that the only thing that really mattered to them priority was to be married in the company of their closest family and friends.  The other thing that was very obvious was the joy that these two bring each other.... I have very few pictures of the two of them where they're not smiling or laughing hysterically.

I joined the Terri and the girls in the early morning at Lavish Salon in Listowell as they got heir hair and makeup done.Delroy and his best man got ready at their house where we took a few portraits and Delroy regained me with information on Jamaican Pumpkins!

The ceremony at Listowel Evangelical Missionary Church had a funny moment where a case of mistaken identity led to the unity candle being lit, blown out by the minister, and then re lit.   Weddings never cease to amaze me, just when I think I've sen everything!

After that was all sorted out it was full steam ahead with a really touching service performed by Terri's family minister with some amazing musical accompaniment by Terri's nieces all the way down from Moose Factory.

It was one of those typical fall days that threatened rain but in the end we lucked out and managed to stay dry for the pictures.

I loved the fact that Terri + Delroy chose to have their wedding reception catered by their favourite Jerk chicken restaurant in Toronto.   And after a few wrong turns and a slight delay, the food arrived and man was it worth the wait.  I love Jerk chicken and this was one of the best I've ever had!  Being such a small and intimate wedding, everyone chipped in and served it buffet style!

The rest of the wedding reception was really lovely.   The microphone was opened up after dinner and so many people gave such heartfelt speeches and toasts to the newlyweds.

Ontario Backyard Wedding

Kristin & Adam

As a wedding photographer every year there is one date that you get inquiry after inquiry for once you're already booked.  And this year it was for Kristin and Adam's wedding day.   Thank god their wedding was truly amazing, one of my favourite weddings in years.

Planning a wedding is never easy.  Planning a wedding in your own backyard for 150 people while you have careers and a young family is one hell of a challenge... but I have to say that Kristin & Adam pulled it of amazingly well.

It was a really relaxed morning hanging out with the girls and then the guys as they all got ready for pictures and the ceremony.

The first look took place on Adam's stepfathers's dock overlooking Lake Simcoe.  Such a beautiful spot for this!   Afterwords we headed over to a nearby abandoned building and forest for some pictures with the family and bridal party.

The wedding ceremony took place in their backyard under one of the most beautiful old trees I've ever seen.  I seriously would have bought that house just for the tree.

Their little boy and girl did an amazing job and ring bearer and flower girl before Kristin walked down the aisle on the arm of her father for their wedding ceremony that was standing room only.

The ceremony featured lot's of smiles, laughter and great moments but one of the most touching moments during the ceremony was when Adam's grandfather gave a traditional blessing.

One of the great benefits of having a backyard wedding is you get to do whatever you want... including heading straight to the bar after the ceremony for a first drink as a married couple.  The other thing you get to do is have taco's for dinner.  That's right, I said taco's for dinner.   Take that prime rib.  :)

The cocktail hour and the rest of the night was really relaxed with speeches and dancing throughout the night.  I loved how Kristin and Adam just gathered everyone around them at the bar and gave their speech outside under the stars.

And of course, they had a Smoke's Poutinerie truck pull up in their driveway for some late night munchies.

Hesseland Inn Wedding Photographer

Rebecca + Jeff

Rebecca & Jeff's wedding at the Hessenland Inn on the shores of Lake Huron was one of my favourite weddings of the year!

Rebecca was a bridesmaid from Nicole + Bobby's wedding last year so there was an automatic comfort level for all of us working together!  Plus, we did some great engagement pictures you can see here.

It was my first time photographing a wedding at the Hessenland Inn and I have to say it's an amazing venue.  The reception room is an old stone barn and the bridal suite is in the converted silo with amazing views!

After everyone was ready and looking great, we headed across the grounds for an outdoor wedding ceremony.  The weather forecast hadn't been looking great all day, and there was a brief moment it looked like we might be getting wet during the ceremony, but my lucky habits foot worked again and it blew past us.

Hessenland Inn has access to a great beach so after some portraits with the families and the wedding party I took Rebecca + Jeff down there for some portraits of just the two of them.

The reception had everything... great speeches, great food, great party, great tornado.... Yep.

The weather held out out for the ceremony and pictures but once the reception started it was a full blown thunderstorm for most of the night.  At one point, during one of the fathers speeches the normal sounds of rain, thunder & lighting were replaced by about 15 seconds of a loud roar.   We all kind of paused and looked up, half expecting the roof to come flying off but it quickly passed.  The worst of the damage was several big trees on the property knocked down!

Ontario Cottage Wedding

Great wedding with Laura and Nick at her families cottage in Ontario near Lake Eugenia.

he entire day was centred around a cottage that Laura's grandparents had owned for decades.  Even the guys were getting married in a cottage just down the road!

The ceremony was in a small little country church and then we headed off to the Lake Eugenia conservation area that has an amazing waterfall.

Then it was back to the cottage for a few more portraits on the waterfront and a great reception under canvas in the backyard.
